Indians sweep Dubai media awards

Vibhu Puri, Rrivu Laha, Anuja Rane and Swagata Mazumdar were among the winners of the prestigious Ibda’a (Creativity in Arabic) awards of Dubai Media City.

DUBAI: Vibhu Puri, Rrivu Laha, Anuja Rane and Swagata Mazumdar were among winners of Ibda’a (Creativity in Arabic) awards of the Dubai Media City.

Puri, from Pune's Film and Television Institute of India, topped the film section to win one month’s internship with Showtime channel. Raha, also from FTII, emerged winner in the TV documentary category and gets an internship with Al Aqariya (Real Estate) Television.

The prize in the Print Advertising category went to Anuja Rane from Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai, and she will work as an intern with Saatchi & Saatchi for a month.

Swagata Mazumdar from the Bangalore-based Convergence Institute of Media Management gets to work with the Arabian Radio Network, which runs among others Hindi and Malayalam FM channels here, taking to top spot in the Radio category.

Sarah Saleh, from the University of Sydney, Australia, won the award for journalism, and will be an intern with CNN. The other awards were for digital photography, graphic design, TV advertising and analogue photography.

“The winners were selected from a shortlist of 50 candidates. This year’s award reached out to media students from all over the world,” said Mohammad Al Mulla, Director, Dubai Media City and coordinator of the awards. In previous years too, Indians have figured in the winners’ list.
