Pune: Traffic jams on Hinjewadi Chowk is a daily issue. Techies have been time and again have been complained about this issue.
Realising that the primary reason for the snarls is the use of private vehicles, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has handed over 10 new air conditioned buses to Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).
Of this, a fleet of six buses will be deployed at the IT park while the other four buses will be used for Pune Darshan. Apart from the jerk free and comfortable ride the new AC buses will be equipped with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), tracking system, mobile charging on each seat.
Executive engineer, vehicle depot of PMC Kishore Pol, who is handling the project, said, “The 10 new buses will be handed over to PMPML by the end of next month, the new buses will have all the facility for the passengers. We are aiming to attract high profile commuters to use public transport.”Senior police inspector (planning), Rajendra Kamire said, “This is a positive move and it will resolve the traffic issue in Hinjewadi area to a great extent as majority of them use private vehicles to commute to their offices.”
He added, “However, it is important that proper planning of the route is done in respect to time. This move is aimed to discourage IT professionals to use private vehicles.”
In 2009, PMPML had introduced AC buses for Pune Darshan. However, presently only one bus is used which too has been off the road as the AC system has broken down and is yet to be repaired.
Joint managing director of PMPML, Praveen Ashtikar said, “After procurement of these buses we will take decision on adding any new routes for Pune darshan.”
