A day after chief minister Prithviraj Chavan admitted that there was no immediate solution to Mumbai’s pothole problems, a Pune-based road technology expert has offered a quick-fix solution to make city roads crater free.

Anil Godbole, a Pune-based road expert, has claimed that his product—Wonder Patch— will work wonders to solve the pothole problem.

He claimed that if his product will be mixed with macadam (a mixture of bitumen and crushed stone) while filling up potholes, the road repair work can be done even during heavy rains and the roads will be pothole free for at least three years.

Godbole’s company has provided certain solutions to the public works department in constructing roads in the state, especially in the Konkan region.

Alleging that none of the stakeholders responsible for constructing and maintaining roads have done their basics right to make city roads crater free, Godbole said: “The basics are neither followed by the bureaucrats, nor the road contractors. Water is primarily responsible for causing potholes. The bitumen and water can never gel together. At the same time, no bitumen road will always be ‘pothole free’ for ever. Considering these factors, certain chemicals have to be used, either while constructing the road itself or while filling up potholes. Authorities seem to have forgotten this very basic idea,” said Godbole.

“I am not here to make huge profits by selling my products. However, I want Mumbaikars to understand where things have gone wrong. In case of potholes, the agencies are giving a reason, saying they cannot be repaired until a dry spell. However, if my product (wonder patch) is mixed with macadam (a mixture of bitumen and crushed stone) while filling up potholes, the work can be done even during heavy rains. I can guarantee that the roads will be pothole free for at least 3 years,” claimed Godbole.

Godbole has written letters to several agencies involved in road repairs and construction. “The state PWD has been using my materials for various. However, the striking difference can be seen in patches in Konkan such as Ratnagiri, Kashedi Ghat and Sawantwadi, where my products have been used,” said Godbole.

He added, “I have done an extensive research about Indian weather conditions before coming up with these chemical solutions. Till now, nobody was listening to my point. However, now additional municipal commissioner Aseem Kumar Gupta has called for a meeting on Tuesday.”
