Women entrepreneurs hold exhibition in Pune

Handmade products are being sold at reasonable rates at the Rahulnagar community hall in Kothrud.

The Swayambhu self help group (SHG) of the Swayamsiddha Mahila Mandal, Kothrud inaugurated its first, two-day exhibition-cum-sale of handmade products at the Rahulnagar Community Hall off Karve Road on Saturday.

Most of the 25 women entrepreneurs were above the age of 50 and conducted their business from home. Shobhana Bijoor, one of the organisers told DNA, "This is a platform for middle-class women to showcase their creativity and increase their
small-scale business."

According to Avantika Abyankar, one of the participants, the prices of most products were less than those prevalent in the market. "Care has been taken not to repeat any product. Promoting self-reliance through cooperation is the motto of the exhibition," Abyankar said.

The products on display include handbags, imitation jewellery and traditional clothes for children, designer jewellery, chocolates, crystal flowers, diyas and small temple bells.

The different art products include paper quilling craft, designer envelopes and greeting cards. There is a variety of herbal and ayurvedic products, which are good for health and skin. The variety of kurtis and saris ranges from pure silk to pure cotton to South Indian.

Some ladies have put up snacks stalls as well. There are also products for Friendship Day and Raksha Bandhan.
