A 32-year-old woman who despite being attacked by a chain snatcher got him nabbed as she raised an alarm and tried to stop him from escaping.

The victim Geeta Menjri, a resident of RCF Colony in Chembur, was returning home after visiting a general store when she was suddenly attacked by an unidentified person on the second floor staircase of the type 2 building in the RCF Colony.

The incident took place on Saturday evening.

The accused pushed Menjri and then threw red chilli powder in her eyes. But she did not give up. Although she had severe pain and inflammation in her eyes, she held the accused.

She did not let him flee with her gold chain worth Rs1 lakh. The woman managed to hold on to him for some time and then started screaming for help.

Finally, the accused got away but Menjri screams by then had alerted a police beat marshal who was passing from there.

The policeman chased the accused and nabbed him after chasing him for some time. The police said that the accused has been identified as Suresh Karve, 40.

“We are further verifying his past criminal record,” said the police.
