A 43-year-old woman and her servant were found brutally murdered inside a flat in Juhu on Tuesday evening. Two other servants, who went missing soon after the incident, are
suspected to be behind the murder.

Though robbery is suspected to be the motive behind the crime, the victim’s family are yet to ascertain the amount of money or valuables that have gone missing.

The double murder created fear among the residents of posh locality of Fifth Road at Juhu, even as the  police have formed several teams to launch a manhunt for the accused.

The victims have been identified as Kavita Suchak and her servant Prakash Bagwe, 35, who was with the Suchak family for the past 15 years.

The police said out of the two suspected servants, one has been working with the family for the last six years, while the other has been employed for the last 1.5 years.

“We have managed to gather a lot of information about the suspects and our teams are after them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) P Dighavkar.

According to the police, the incident happened between 10am and 3pm, when Kavita’s two teenage kids had gone to school.

The matter came to light, when the children returned and found the door locked from inside. They took the help of the neighbours, but in vein.

“Finally, they approached the police, who broke open the door to find the duo dead,” said Assistant Police Commissioner Sagar Salunke.

The police said the servants’ details  were not registered with the police, though they (cops) have  managed to gather a lot of information about them, since the accused had been working with the family since a long time.

The police said once inside the flat, they found Bagwe strangulated to death, with his limbs tied with a rope and mouth gagged with cloth. Inside the bathroom, Kavita was lying dead.

The preliminary medical investigation on Kavita suggested that she died after being hit on her head with a blunt object. The bodies have been sent to the Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle for a post- mortem.

The police said Kavita’s husband works as a financial consultant abroad and was informed late in the night about the incident.

A relative of the victim believe that the motive behind the crime was robbery, but they are not sure whether the accused could have got much of the valuables or cash from the family as they (family) does not keep it at their home.

Suhas Rai, a businessman from the locality said, “One can never imagine that their servants could do such a thing.” The missing servants are Nepali nationals, said the police.
