State government has announced to take up the issue of water woes in Mumbai and surrounding cities and will take action against the officials found guilty.

Abu Asim Azmi of Samajwadi Party, during zero hour, said that his constituency Mankhurd, has been facing acute water shortage due to the ill-practices by the anti-social elements who are in nexus with the municipal corporation officials.

Azmi said that his constituency does not even have the pipeline. He added that the tanker water supply by the BMC also has been discontinued by the corporation leaving the citizens to avail it from water mafia at exorbitant price.

Arif Naseem Khan, guardian minister of the city suburbs, assured the house to hold a meeting with municipal officials. But other MLAs including Amin Patel, Baba Siddique and Nawab Malik said that the issue was related not only to suburbs, but also to entire city and Thane.

The MLAs demanded that a comprehensive meeting under the chairmanship of chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, who also holds urban development department, should be held immediately.

Malik alleged that the BMC has failed to monitor the water supply and the shortage was the result of its failure.

Khan said that the meeting would be convened with immediate effect.
