Thanks to Diwali, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) election symbol, the railway engine and Shiv Sena’s bow and arrow, seem to be crossing each other’s path, even before the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Sensing the opportunity to grab voters’ attention, both the parties have indulged in a war of kandils (lanterns) and the center of this war is Shiv Sena Bhavan at Dadar.

On Dussehra, the Sena had displayed the biggest lantern in the city, near Sena Bhavan and now, on Diwali, the MNS has installed a bigger lantern in the same vicinity.

Rivalry has crossed all limits with parties installing lanterns on the streets, positioning them next to the rival party’s lantern.

Shiv Sena Bhavan being one of the most sensitive parts of the city, each party has decided to extend Diwali greetings to the voters through posters and lanterns at the same spot.

The alleged “backstabbers of Sena”, from Kiran Pawaskar to Nitesh Rane and from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to Samadhan Sarvankar, have chosen Sena Bhavan have overshadowed Sena’s posters and lanterns.

The Congress has also played its part, by wishing the citizens. It seems a united attack on Sena of a different type has been launched by all parties, ahead of the BMC polls.

Pawaskar, a former Sainik, is now with the NCP, while Sarvankar’s father Sada Sarvankar left Sena few years ago after a feud with party leaders. Rane’s father Narayan was thrown out of Sena and MNS was formed by Raj Thackeray after his dispute with party executive president Uddhav.

“There is nothing amusing in seeing MNS copying us. They have been doing this ever since they formed the party. As far as polls are concerned, every party will try and use different methods. Let them do whatever they want. Dadar has always had Sena and will continue to do so,'' said Chhotu Sawant, Sena leader from Dadar.
MNS leaders chose not to comment on the issue.
