Residents of Ganga Satellite, a housing society in Wanavdi, held a candlelight march on Friday night to show their solidarity with Gandhian Anna Hazare and express happiness over the consensus on the Jan Lokpal Bill.

The young and old alike of the society marched to the main Wanavdi circle amid slogans of ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ and ‘Anna Hazare aage badho’. Chairman of the society, Rajesh Mishra said, “A 72-year-old man is fighting on his own, so we felt we should support him and show our solidarity with the cause.”

The youngsters who joined in the march could not understand how the bill would benefit them. But Rashmi Joshi, a mother of two, said, “We have been living with corruption for too long. The cause needs support and it is high time somebody woke us up.”

Explaining the gravity of the problem, she said, “We want to leave a beautiful world for our children. All we know is that the money that should be spent in helping the poor is being pocketed by corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.”

Her son Tanmay, who participated in the march, said it was the “best day” of his life.
