A report on the blatant violation of the ‘Red Zone’ around the Dehu Road ammunition depot (DNA, February 23) has caused outrage in the city. The report highlighted how the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had proceeded with the construction of 11,760 tenements under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in the area despite army authorities pointing out the violations in Sector 22 of Nigdi since June, 2010.

Questions are now being raised as to why army authorities turned a blind eye towards this problem prior to 2010.

Given the fact, that the Ammunition Factory, Khadki, had acted swiftly last month to take action against illegal constructions near their premises, the apparent inaction of the ammunition depot
officials has raised many questions.
