Two city lads, Angad Deosthale and Jaydeep Jagtap, have been selected to join the 125th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in June 2011. The results for the same were declared on Friday.

Both the boys are students of the Apex Careers on Ghole Road.

When contacted at the Apex office on Saturday afternoon, the boys were beside themselves with joy. While Angad has secured 48th rank in the Air Force merit list, Jaydeep has secured 271st rank in the Army merit list.

Jaydeep is the son of a school teacher posted in Bhor.

An alumnus of the Sainik School in Satara, Jaydeep told DNA, "I am on cloud nine. For me this is a dream come true. My parents were against my joining the armed forces. The concept in the villages is that joining the army means you are a jawan for life. Hence, my parents wanted me to pursue some other course."

On the other hand, Angad, son of a corporate manager, was inspired by Hollywood movies to get into the air force.

He said, "I think the film 'Top Gun' was my biggest inspiration and I am definitely going to fly fighter jets some day."

Angad is a student of the Muktangan High School and Junior College in the city.

Jaydeep told DNA that he was always inspired by the olive green.

"I saw the lifestyle of the army officers and since standard VII, I was sure about my choice," Jaydeep said.

"The respect that the uniform commands is something that really attracted me," he said.

Busting certain misconceptions regarding the armed forces, Angad said, "The army is not about war, it is about leadership."

According to him, he was most inspired when he met 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan's parents at a felicitation ceremony in Pune last year.

"When we met the major's parents we were convinced that this was the right choice," says Jaydeep.

Expressing his concern about the huge number of vacancies in the army, director of Apex Careers, Lt Col (retd) Pradeep Brahmankar said, "A lot of youngsters today want comfortable jobs. They are not ready to take up challenges and hence examples set by motivated boys like Angad and Jaydeep need to be emulated."
