Anna Hazare’s fight against corruption is on the fast-track. Just a day before Hazare’s indefinite hunger strike, supporters of the anti-corruption crusader spent the entire day reaching out to people in the city on Monday.

The morning started with Hazare’s supporters participating in a flag hoisting ceremony at the Borivli police station, followed by public rallies at CP Tank near Mulund East station, Kaifi Azmi Park, Mira Road and Vashi. Volunteers then gathered at the Nisar Hall in Dadar for a meeting.

Around 200 people attended the meeting chaired by Mayank Gandhi, Mumbai unit in-charge of India Against Corruption (IAC), to pledge their support for Anna’s fast.

While some of the supporters said they will go to police stations and Azad Maidan to register their protest, some said they will join the fast and court arrest.

The meeting began with shouting of Vande Matram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai eventually turned into slamming and lampooning of government’s draft bill.
“They have made a Lokpal that does not cover corruption. When you ask the government whether this bill will cover tax evasion, mining, they say know. They are not able to answer what exactly this bill will cover,” said Gandhi.

Gandhi went on to explain the draft bill prepared by them and how it will take care of all corruption cases. “If there is a provision of strict punishment, then corruption will not even come anywhere near the country,” said Gandhi.

Raising the tempo, Gandhi said: “This is the fight for astitva (existence). All the swayam sevaks should come out, shut shops and gather at Azad Maidan. They should not go to work for a day.”
Slamming Congress leaders Manish Tewari, Kapil Sibal and Digvijay Singh, Gandhi said: “They speak once and thousands sympathise and want to get associated with us.”
