Gas leak at Tarapur pharma plant kills 4 workers

The plant was in operation when the hydrogen sulphide gas leaked. Three workers are said to be in a critical condition.

In a shocking tragedy four workers of a pharmaceutical company died on the spot while several others were injured on Tuesday night after hydrogen sulphide gas leaked during the plant operations.

According to Boisar police three of the injured workers are said to be critical. According to Boisar police, the incident took place in Sequence Scientific firm located at Plot Number W 151 & 152 in Tarapur MIDC on Tuesday evening. The plant was in full operation when the hydrogen sulphide gas leaked in the plant.

Fire brigade officials who rushed to the spot admitted about 14 workers in Ashirwad and Tarapur civil hospital out of which 4 were declared brought dead. Three workers are said to be critical.

The plant manufactures vertinerary products and has units in Raigad, Dombivli, Ambernath and other locations, while a R&D centre is located in Kumta, Karnataka.

Speaking to DNA, Senior Inspector of Boisar police station Uttam Sonawane, confirmed the incident and death of four plant workers. The incident took place late in the evening due to leakage of hydrogen sulphide gas and so far casualty is for, said Sonawane.

The deceased have been identified as Shivkant Tiwari, Binu Singh, Naresh Raidas and Suresh Prajapati.
