After a rain-drenched Saturday, there is some good news in the works for Mumbaikars. The incessant rain in the catchment area has led to Tansa lake crossing its capacity mark this morning.

“Tansa supplies potable water to Mumbai. It has started overflowing from 01.45 pm. Last year, the lake started overflowing on August 6 from 08.35 am,” said an official from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) hydraulic
department.

The catchment areas of the other lakes, Modak Sagar, Vihar, Upper Vaitarna and Bhatsa too are seeing good rainfall in the last few days,” he said.

According to the data available with the BMC, the six lakes have 11,21,331 million litres of water now, as compared to 10,42,276 million litres last year in the same period.

Tansa is the fourth lake to have started overflowing this year. Earlier on July18, Tulsi Lake started overflowing, within 48 hours Modaksagar Lake followed suit. On august 22, Vihar lake also started overflowing.
