Summer sees rise in ailments in Mumbai

The change in weather is seeing a rise in ailments like cough and cold. With the temperatures being 32-33 degree as compared to 41 degree two weeks back, the doctors are seeing increasing number of cases of viral flu and cough and cold.

“We are already getting more diarrhoea and pneumonia cases. Also we are seeing rise in throat infection problems and respiratory issues because of this hot and humid weather,” said Dr Pratit Samdhani, general physician, Jaslok hospital. Seconding Dr Samdhani, Dr Vijay Yewale said, “I’ve already begun seeing patients, especially children, complaining of dehydration. We are also getting a number of viral conjunctivitis and chicken pox cases in children. “

Apart from the viral fevers, exhaustion cases are also on rise.

Soonam Kapoor was recently hospitalised for the same in Kokilaben hospital. The doctors are urging people to spend minimum time under the sun and to use sun-protection whenever they venture out. They have warned that more people may be attacked by serious diseases such as dehydration, gastroenteritis and jaundice.

“People involved in field work should drink lot of water, sleep properly and avoid exertion. Apart from the rise in throat infection and respiratory issues, we are getting more diarrhoea and pneumonia cases. We are advising people to stay away from pollution and avoid outside food.” said Dr Samdhani. Meanwhile the weather bureau said that the weather will continue to remain so for next few days.
