Unhappy over being sidelined by Congress high command, Congress MP from the Mumbai North-East constituency Gurudas Kamat has now turned to his voters.

In his first mass-contact programme after being elected as a Member of Parliament more than two years ago, Kamat has decided to visit all wards to hear grievances. He will visit five municipal wards at Goregaon on Friday. On Saturday, he is scheduled to visit eight wards in the Dindoshi Assembly constituency.

He has planned to cover all 43 municipal wards in his constituency in six weeks. Kamat recently resigned from the Union cabinet after he was shifted to MoS (independent charge) Drinking water and sanitation.

The Opposition has criticised his mass-contact programme.
“He was hardly seen in the constituency. There is a huge outrage against the MP who completely neglected the voters. After his ouster from the cabinet, he felt it necessary to show his presence," said Subhash Desai, Shiv Sena MLA from Goregaon.

Kamat's office has denied this. “We have been regularly organising Janata Darbars and meeting programmes for the voters,” said the MP’s personal assistant.
