On the occasion of the first anniversary of the Children’s Right to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, enforced in April 2010, the state is all set to pen down success stories of its best schools.

Schools having state-of-the-art infrastructure, dedicated teachers and creative classrooms will be featured in a book to be published by the state education department. The initiative aims to promote a healthy competition among schools.

Success stories of 1,600 schools from all over the state, including 12 schools from the city, will be written by the schools’ teachers in the book titled Gunvatta Darpan (A Reflection of Brilliance). “We have chosen the schools which are set apart from their contemporaries and have achieved academic excellence. None of the schools we’ve selected are for the elite. We wanted to look at schools which serve the common man,” said Nandakumar, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, project officer.

The department had sent a special task force of education experts, teachers and officials, to check on all the state’s schools. Four schools were selected from every block.

“These schools were selected because they are providing excellent quality of education at an affordable rate. They are marked by committed and competent teachers and facilities that will nurture students’ all-round personality,” he added.

The department is planning to bring out fresh issues, adding new schools to the list every year.
