Salvage operations to refloat remove the grounded ship MT Pavit from the Juhu beach started and on Sunday salvers tried to dredge the sand below the ship.

An emergency towing vessel was also brought to the spot and team of salvers from the company Great Offshore surveyed the spot to further carry out salvaging of the ship during high tide.

The ship MT Pavit has tilted on one side to around thirty five degrees which may cause a problem in salvage operations so the salvers will first have to make the ship erect before pulling it inside the sea.

The Salvage is also being delayed as the owners of the ship are yet to sign a deal with the salvaging firm.

Meanwhile the oil spill combat operations in high sea went on Sunday also wherein Coast Guard ships Samudra Prahari and Sankalp carried outspraying of oil spill dispersants in the affected areas near the sunk ship MV Rak carrier.

The oil slick was found only in area upto 1 nautical mile from the spot where the ship had sunk. A thin slick was observed in area upto 3.5 nautical miles which was earlier much thicker and extended upto 8 nautical miles.

Churning of spilled oil was done, and disintegration and breaking of thick patches of oil was done. Aerail reconnaissance was carried out by Chetak helicopter and now new tar balls were spotted on beaches or the coastline.
