“I was at Mhada after receiving numerous feedbacks about the slow pace of work. After interacting with various department heads, I have instructed the authority’s top brass to form a think-tank of officials who can work for bringing in much-needed transparency. I have also instructed that each and every file has to be cleared within seven working days, else the official may face disciplinary action,” chief secretary Ratnakar Gaikwad told DNA.

The entire machinery of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) was taken aback on Friday when Gaikwad paid a surprise visit to its headquarters in Bandra.
He added that MHADA is very close to people’s hearts and people have high expectations from it. “However, what is often noted is that a person having work with the authority has to come to the headquarters again and again. Also, there are a number of complaints about issues such as encroachments in the transit camp, pending files. The think-tank will make sure that such instances are minimised,” added Gaikwad.

Welcoming the idea, MHADA Mumbai board chairman Amarjit Manhas said that the think tank should be more than helpful to help improve the slow pace of administration.

“I hope it brings in the changes which are desperately needed to win people’s confidence in the system,” said Manhas.
