Power supply to some parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad was cut off from 3 pm on Monday as a precautionary measure due to the heavy rainfall.

Officials of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) said as the water level in the Mutha and Pavana rivers rose, 11 transformers in Parvati electricity division and two transformers in Chinchwad area were shut down to prevent any disaster.

They would be re-started after the water level recedes.

Low-lying areas like Eknathnagar, Anandnagar, Vitthalnagar, Sharada Sarovar Society, Rajpark Society in Parvati division were inundated due to the rising water of the Mutha. There was possibility of short circuit in electricity meters on the ground floor. Hence, at 3 am, 11 transformers on the 11-kV Vadgaon powerline were shut down.

As there was flooding of the Pavana river, two transformers in Chinchwad behind Morya Gosavi temple and a low-tension powerline in Thathewade were shut down to prevent any disaster. Hence, there was power cut in surrounding areas.
