Pune tailor murders daughter over petty quarrel

In a shocking incident, 50-year-old Mahesh Purushottam Makhi allegedly murdered his daughter Megha (22) by assaulting her with a knife on the neck over a petty dispute at Pious Apartment in Shukrawar Peth on Friday noon.

The father of two girls, Makhi went to the Vishrambaug police station and confessed to the crime of killing his eldest daughter.
According to the police, the deceased was a studious woman, used to give tuitions, and was pursuing a post-graduate degree in education from a city college. Makhi runs a tailoring shop in the area.

The victim used to fight with her sister, believing that the parents loved the latter more than her.

Senior inspector Motichand Rathod of Vishrambaug police station told DNA, “Megha used to chat online late into the night and fight with her parents when they objected to it. She did not allow her sister to enter her room. She even hit her mother with a home iron following a dispute on Akshaya Tritiya.”

On Friday, following a quarrel, Megha’s mother and sister left for Upper Indiranagar to meet Megha’s grandmother.

Rathod said, “On returning from his shop, Makhi had a heated argument with Megha around noon. He stabbed his daughter in the neck with a knife in a fit of anger and she died on the spot.”
