With the code of conduct for civic elections coming into force from Wednesday, political parties go into overdrive on Monday.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee approved funds for various projects in the city on Monday. Various political parties have also organised a series of inaugurations on Tuesday.

Standing committee chairman, Ganesh Bidkar, on Monday said, “Standing committee has approved funds of Rs2 lakh for a pillar of honour to be built at Bhidewada where Jotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule started the first school for women. The committee has also approved Rs2.14 lakh for the Haj house to be built at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Memorial in Koregaon Park.”

The other approved projects include Rs9.5 crore for construction of meghdambari for the Anna Bhau Sathe statue and construction of Anna Bhau Sathe memorial in Bibvewadi.

The committee has also approved Rs1.92 crore for Sanas Sports Ground for construction of hostel for sportspersons and visitors’ gallery, Rs2.65 crore for interpretation centre to be built at Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj. A video library and exhibition on wildlife can also be organised at the centre. The panel has also given its approval of Rs11 crore for a 3.4-km long and 24-m wide road in Mundhwa.

While Monday saw funds being approved, political parities have reserved Tuesday for inaugurations. BJP corporator Manisha Ghate has organised the inauguration of iconic Phulrani toy train in Peshwe Park by MLA Girish Bapat. The PMC has spent Rs25 lakh to repair this train.

BJP corporator Mukta Tilak will hold the inauguration of classrooms in Gogate School by the party’s women wing national president, Smriti Irani.

Irani will also inaugurate the renovated building of Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay municipal school number 74 on Tuesday evening.
