Assistant commissioner of police of the Pune Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Vinod Satav, on Tuesday produced evidence of fake documents allegedly procured by German Bakery blast accused Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig (29) and a chargesheet of the Aurangabad arms case of 2006 involving Baig, before the special judge, Usha Thakare.

The evidence includes fake documents comprising a ration card, domicile certificate and regional transport office (RTO) forms bearing official stamps. There are also reports by the authorities concerned stating that the documents are fake.

The court directed Baig’s lawyer, Abdul Rehman to file his say on whether the prosecution should be allowed to give additional evidence or not, on March 1.
The special public prosecutor, Raja Thakre, was not able to appear in the court.

Speaking to the media, Satav warded off questions over the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) giving a negative report on the use of a cellphone to trigger the blast, by pointing out the statement made by additional director general of police (ATS), Rakesh Maria on Monday.

Defence counsel Rehman told media persons, “There was no mention in the forensic report of using a cellphone to trigger the blast.”

He said all additional documents filed before the court are regarding forgery and have nothing to do with the German Bakery blast.

Satav filed an application before the court seeking permission to submit additional evidence regarding 12 hard discs and one pen drive as the seized articles had been sent to the FSL for analysis. After receiving the report, the ATS will submit additional evidence in the court.
