Giving a new twist to the police firing incident, one of the injured, Navnath Vitthal Pangare (29) of Khed Shivapur in the Bhor taluka, claimed he was fired at by an unidentified person travelling in a silver-coloured car on the Pune-Mumbai expressway.

Navnath, who is a vegetable vendor, was not a protestor but was returning from Vashi in a Tata truck.

He got down from the truck after seeing the police firing tear gas shells at the protestors. “Suddenly, a car appeared on the scene and someone from inside the car shot at me,” he said.

The youth has sustained leg injures and is undergoing treatment at Hardikar Hospital in Shivajinagar.

The youth, who is the sole breadwinner in his family, claimed that the police did not fire at him as the latter were much ahead of the spot where he was shot at.

The police have lodged an FIR with the Wadgaon Maval police station based on the statement of the youth against the unidentified person.

However, it is still unclear as to how the car could ply in that zone given the fact that traffic was closed and there was tremendous commotion in the area.

The Pune rural superintendent of police, Sandeep Karnik, said investigation is on to ascertain whether there was any involvement of any goon in the firing incident.
