A husband and a wife, separated by the woman's relatives, were reunited after the man sought help from a city court. When they met each other before the court after almost a month, tears rolled down their cheeks. The reunion was not without its drama, in which the couple's last-minute efforts to seek relief from the court paid off.

Malhar Patil * (24) and Minakshi * (23), daughter of a senior government officer at the Pune district collectorate, have been friends since their college days in Kolhapur. Later, the friendship turned into love and both decided to get married.

When the woman's parents opposed the marriage, they eloped and got married in a temple at Kagal in Kolhapur on July 28, 2009. The woman started living with her husband and caring in-laws in Kolhapur.

However, on October 20 this year, her mother called her over to Pune to celebrate Diwali. Once she reached there, she was persuaded to stay back for a few days more. Later, Minakshi's parents did not allow her to contact Malhar even on the phone. She then sent him an SMS, requesting him to take her back to their home in Kolhapur.

Malhar visited Minakshi's parents' house in Pune on November 15, but he was told to go away and wait for the divorce papers. Since he did not know anybody in the city, he met advocates Sarla Jadhav and Melaba Chandane the same day. They filed an application in the court of judicial magistrate first class, Rohidas Wankhade under section 97 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, praying that a search warrant be issued against Minakshi's father for her wrongful confinement.

The judge took cognisance of the application immediately and issued summons to the parents to be present before the court on November 17 with Minakshi.

However, under pressure from her parents, Minakshi told the court she would go to her husband after a month. She met Malhar with the judge's permission and told him that her parents were emotionally blackmailing her to end the relationship.
While Minakshi was being taken home, she sneaked back and met Malhar.

He was advised by his advocates to approach the court. He then applied to the court for permission to take his wife back to Kolhapur immediately. The court granted the prayer and so the two went to Kolhapur.

Malhar and Minakshi called up Sarla Jadhav and thanked her and her colleague for helping reunite them despite pressure from Minakshi's parents.
