The district administration has geared up to face the situation arising out of the nationwide transporters’ strike, which begins on Sunday midnight.

The district administration has geared up to face the situation arising out of the nationwide transporters’ strike, which begins on Sunday midnight. It has decided to provide police protection to vehicles dealing in emergency services and toll booths. Control
rooms would be set up at various government offices to monitor the situation.
A meeting of senior government officials was held on Saturday evening. District collector, Chandrakant Dalvi discussed the measures to be taken. Additional collector, RK Gaikwad; deputy commissioner of police (special branch), Makarand Ranade; regional transport officer, Chandrakant Kharatmal;district supply officer, Ravindra Kulkarni; representatives of the state transport, oil and gas companies and the agricultural produce marketing committees (APMC) were present for the meeting.
The petrol companies would operate on Sunday, so that distributors can arrange for adequate supply. Tankers coming from the depot at Loni would be provided police protection.
The APMC would ensure adequate supply of essential
commodities. Transport vehicles carrying vegetables, food grain and milk would be provided security.
The RTO office would provide vehicles to the police department for increasing security at various offices and in the city. Home guards and the state reserve police would be requisitioned as per requirement during the strike.
