Probe Pune firing: BJP MP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha member from the city, Praksah Javadekar, has accused the  deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, of being responsible for the firing incident in Maval on August 9, and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Javadekar said the party would lodge a formal complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) about the incident in a few days.

Three people died when the police opened fire on farmers protesting against the proposed closed water pipeline project of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

The state government has ordered a judicial probe into the incident by a retired high court judge.

“Pawar had made this project an ego issue and refused to hold talks in the matter. He was also threatening to use force to make the project see the light of the day,” alleged Javadekar.

He asked for punitive action to be taken against all police officers responsible for opening fire. “We want a thorough investigation into the incident by the CBI at the behest of the Bombay high court,” he said.
