Residents of three housing societies in Kondhwa and Wanavdi area are unhappy with the alleged unhelpful attitude of the deputy registrar of societies, Pune city (I).

They allege that all their recent complaints have been falling on deaf ears.

VK Bishnoi, member, Bramha Horizon in Kondhwa, said that he had been approaching the deputy registrar, Co-operative Societies of Pune City (I), Kiran Sonawane, since September 2009 over alleged financial misappropriation by his managing committee but had not been given an effective hearing.

Likewise, members of societies like Bramha Majestic in Kondhwa and Salunke Vihar, a co-operative society of ex-Army officers in Wanavdi, also have complained of a lack of response to their grievances.

When contacted by DNA, Sonawane said that credit societies were his priority area and not housing societies. He said, "Most of the issues raised are internal and the members should take the matter to the co-operative court."

According to Sonawane, members should ask for a government audit in matters of financial misappropriation.

Members of Brahma Horizon told DNA that despite making an application for a government audit in January 2011, they have not received any response yet.

"If the deputy registrar starts making such statements, where are members like us to go? Who will address our concerns?" questioned Bishnoi.

Members of Bramha Majestic Society also find themselves in a quandary over the alleged inaction by Sonawane's office in an order passed by the divisional joint registrar of co-operatives on October 18, 2010. “So far Sonawane has told us verbally that the order cannot be implemented for jurisdiction issues but has not taken any action till date," revealed J Valavil, member, Brahma Majestic Society.

Some members of Salunke Vihar, which has been in focus for a land related irregularity, have also vehemently opposed the inaction of the deputy registrar's office against their complaints regarding the changes in the society's registration certificate.
