Angry residents of Pimple Saudagar took to the streets on Sunday following 40 hours of power cut in the area.

The residents alleged that despite their repeated requests, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has failed to restore the supply.

“There are several residential societies in the area like Rose Valley, Rose Rhythm, Rose Lane Residency and Rajbir Palace. Each of these societies has up to 300 apartments. Just imagine our plight without power for the last 40 hours,” said a resident of Rose Valley, Arun Jain.

The agitated residents staged a road blockade for nearly an hour, following which local MSEDCL and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation officials went to the spot.

“They assured that us that the problem would be resolved as soon as possible. But we have been hearing such promises ever since the supply was snapped,” Jain said.

According to the aggrieved residents roads have been dug up in the area following which the underground cables have been damaged at some points. But the MSEDCL authorities are unable to detect the points where the damage has taken place.

The executive engineer of Pimpri-Chinchwad division of MSEDCL, AI Mulani, said the cables were damaged due to road digging that resulted in the snapping of power supply.

“Our team had been working since Saturday. And we have managed to restore power on Sunday evening,” he said.
