Persistent Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) wing of Persistent Systems Limited, will set up an agro development centre and centre for computer education in Salumbre village in Maval taluka, Pune district, this year.

Both the centres will be managed by the foundation’s ‘Village uplift project’.

The agro development centre will help farmers of the village to obtain information about agriculture, agriculture products, its marketing and market places.

Initially 10 computers will be installed at the village’s primary school, Gram Prabodhini Shala, from where both the centres will be run.

The volunteers of the foundation will visit the village to train schoolchildren and farmers to use the computers.

The chief trustee of the foundation, Sonali Deshpande, told reporters that the project in Salumbre village is aligned with the foundation’s involvement in three key areas - health care, education and community development.

“Being our company’s CSR wing, the foundation has already launched a health care centre in association with Gram Prabodhini Shala, for residents of six villages last month,” said Deshpande.

Under its health care scheme, doctors visit the centre thrice a week. There is a provision of medicines and emergency treatments, counselling for students by an expert in clinical psychology, health check-up camps and health awareness lectures.

“The foundation, in association with Community Aid and Sponsorship Program (CASP), has donated Rs5 lakh to Gram Prabhodini Shala under the Student Sponsorship Programme 2011,” she added.

This year, Persistent Foundation contributed Rs1 crore towards social work and supported 44 institutes / NGOs through its Pune, Nagpur, Goa and Hyderabad offices.
