The growing unrest within the Shiv Sena took an ugly turn when some sainiks beat up a senior partyman on Tuesday night.
Worli corporator (Ward no 192) Parshuram Desai was thrashed with wooden sticks after an argument with the party workers over the appointment of a shakha pramukh. A seriously injured Desai is being treated in the intensive care unit of Nair Hospital.

Sources said the brawl took place after Datta Narvankar, a former shakha pramukh, provoked his workers to beat up Desai.
Worli police have registered complaints against both Desai and Narvankar. The police have detained 123 party workers. “The workers have been detained under Section 151 of IPC,” said Bharat Worlikar, senior police Inspector of Worli police station. Additional policemen have been posted at the Jijamata Nagar area where Desai’s office is situated.

Recently, Sena’s executive chief Uddhav Thackeray appointed Gautam Markandey as the shakha pramukh of shakha no. 192. According party sources, Narvankar was under the impression that Desai told Thackeray to change the shakha pramukh.

On Tuesday night, Narvankar allegedly came to Desai’s office with his supporters and started shouting at him. A verbal argument between the two leaders ensued. Later, Narvankar’s followers beat up Desai.
