Here’s a chance to prove that your school has been doing its bit for the environment. Just brush up on your acting, writing and directing skills and produce a drama on environmental issues.

Ecofolks, a city-based organisation dedicated to spreading the message of ecological awareness and green living, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), will be organising the fifth state-level enviro inter-school drama competition. Up for grabs is the title of the ‘green school.’

The competition will be held at Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Kolhapur. “The school that participates in the drama competition will automatically become a candidate for the prize of green school. Our examiners hold a surprise visit and the school will be graded on certain parameters,” said Paresh Pimple, founder of Ecofolks.

Explaining how this competition differs from others, Pimple said at the heart of it are environmental-friendly practices followed at schools. “We will visit participating schools, interact with students and ask them about the subject. We will also see whether the school has electricity and water audits, and whether it has taken any eco-friendly initiative,” said Pimple. Depending on the activities of the schools, numbers will be given. The school that gets the maximum points will be named the green school.”
Schools will be asked to perform a 20-minute-long drama on any of the three topics — Green versus Grey, The ONLY Planet and Pollution ka Solution.

Senior theatre personality Waman Kendre will judge the students’ performance. Around 80-90 schools from each centre are expected to participate. The primary round for the Mumbai centre will be held on December 18 and the finals will be held at the Ravindra Natya Mandir on January 15.
