The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) caught a superintendent rank officer and two of his juniors for allegedly accepting and demanding a bribe of Rs1,400.
The trio was arrested on Monday from the service tax office in Thane.
According to the CBI, superintendent Arvind Kulkarni, head constable Ashok Thalkar, and sepoy Pralhad Mane, were demanding a bribe to issue a service tax certificate to a businessman.
Searches are now being conducted at Kulkarni’s residence and office premises. “The group functioned at Kulkarni’s behest. And he had the largest share in the bribe that was collected,” said an officer who is investigating the case.
The CBI will also scrutinise the bank accounts of all the suspects.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kulkarni has hugely invested in real estate in Mumbai and interior Maharashtra.
