The Pune district administration has issued show cause notices to Praj Industries and a plot owner on the issue of illegal dumping of debris and excavation on the banks of Ramnadi in Bavdhan Budruk. The Goel Ganga Group was cleared of any wrongdoing.

The tehsildar of Mulshi, Bhausaheb Jadhav, on Tuesday served show cause notices to the company and to plot owner, Rajendra Bandal, for illegal dumping and excavation by the side of the Ramnadi in Bavdhan Budruk.

A team of district revenue officials had inspected the site on March 15 after some residents and activists raised a hue and cry, as reported by DNA in a series of articles in February.

“Our surveys indicated that Praj Industries had illegally excavated 45 brass of soil, while Bandal had excavated 127 brass of soil.
“The fines calculated for Praj is Rs56,000 and for Bandal about Rs1.57 lakh. We have given them 15 days to file their replies,” Jadhav said. He said once the replies are filed by the two parties, a final decision on fines would be taken.

The residents of Ramnagar colony and other societies along Bavdhan had long been highlighting the threat of flash floods in that area due to illegal dumping. Ramnagar and Sai Kamal housing societies had faced the brunt of flash floods in July and October last year.

Praj Industries spokesperson, Vinati Moghe, denied receiving any show cause notice from the tehsildar. “We will reply to the notice once we receive it,” she told DNA.

The plot owner, Rajendra Bandal, confirmed receiving the notice and said that the dumping done on his land was legal.

“I am a farmer and due to the walls of the housing
societies opposite my land, flood waters destroy my crops. In order to protect my crops, I have levelled the ground and that too with due permission from the surveyor. I will be replying to the notice soon,” he said.
