Dilip Wagh, an MLA of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and his personal assistant, Mahesh Mali, have been booked by the police for allegedly raping a girl who had approached them for a job.
According to the Sarkarwada police in Nashik city, the action followed a complaint by a girl on Thursday night. Wagh represents Pachora assembly segment in Jalgaon.
The victim told the police she had approached the legislator for a job following which he asked her to come to Nashik. The girl, a resident of Aurangabad, reached Nashik and contacted Wagh. He asked her to come to the government rest house where he and Mali raped her, she said.
Wagh called the allegation a political conspiracy. Home minister RR Patil said the police were investigating the matter. “All are equal before the law and the police will conduct the probe impartially,” he said. Assistant commissioner of police, Nashik, Ganesh Shinde said they are awaiting medical and forensic reports.
