Did Hasan Ali, allegedly India’s biggest tax evader, use the money of three former chief ministers and bureaucrats in the stock market? The issue rocked the state legislative council on Tuesday following a report in a newspaper to the effect.
“The government must come clean on the matter and reveal the names of the chief ministers involved,” said Pandurang Phundkar, leader of the opposition in the council.
Defending the government, school education minister, Rajendra Darda, said the documents and the article were not published in any government publication. “The authenticity of the documents needs to be checked,’’ he added.
Not satisfied with the answer, members of the Shiv Sena and the BJP started shouting slogans and rushed to the well of the House, leading to its adjournment for 15 minutes. Later, chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh directed the minister to verify the authenticity of the documents.
