This Sunday, be prepared to endure a troublesome commute on the Central Railways’ (CR) main line. A one-day long jumbo block in railway operations to carry out final work for the operation of two new rail tracks between Thane and Kurla and remodelling of the rail yard at Vidyavihar will disrupt the commute of both suburban as well as outstation commuters.

The CR had planned a similar block on April 3 but could not implement it as the project is being opposed by commuters at Vikhroli as their demands for the opening of a foot-over bridge has yet to be met and they perceive the two new lines as being dangerous for those are forced to trespass into the rail tracks to reach the platform in the absence of a foot-over bridge.

CR railway officials said senior police officials had requested them not to implement block as they would not be able to supply protection in case of an emergency due to the cricket World Cup and other related events. Now with the promise of a security cover, the CR is planning to go ahead with the block.

To implement this block, 100 suburban services have been cancelled and several outstation trains have been cancelled, diverted, rescheduled or curtailed for the day. Some have also seen a change in their originating points.
