The seizure of two Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) maps and 31 cartridges from fake doctor Irshad-ur-Hafiz-ur Rehman’s dispensary has made the investigating agencies probe his alleged links with anti-national outfits.
The Byculla police and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) are now probing whether the fake doctor has any links with terrorist outfits.

Rehman (37), a resident of Agripada, was arrested on the night of December 5 at Navanagar Junction in Mazgaon when he was going to his dispensary using a red beacon light on his car. When he was accosted by the police during a nakabandi, he claimed to be a doctor and also showed medical degrees of Armed Forces Medical College. These documents were later found to be bogus.

The police had found stickers of the state home department, Maharashtra police and police medical officer in his car. A press card, a walky-talky set, four live cartridges, a revolver, three mobile phones and 13 SIM cards were also seized from his car.

The police were already probing into his suspicious activities and stumbled upon a startling seizure a few days ago. After conducting searches at his dispensary recently, the police had seized two maps of ONGC situated at Bandra (East). These maps are not the handmade one but are computer printouts.

“When we inquired about these maps, he could not give satisfactory reply,” said an officer, requesting anonymity.
Apart from maps, three more SIM cards, 31 cartridges, a book written in Urdu, some documents belonging to Mantralaya, 10 passport related xerox papers, 2 hard disks, a laptop, data card and 15 CDs have also been seized from his Mazgaon-based dispensary. Currently, Rehman is in police custody till December 20.
