Mumbai cops bust 'Munnabhai MBBS' style police recruitment scam

Thane police have busted a police recruitment racket that was being operated in Munnabhai MBBS style by a Solapur based academy. Police have arrested 11 accused including nine candidates, in what they believe is the first such racket in the entire state.

“The accused are from Solapur. Two of them operate a police recruitment academy while the other nine are candidates”, said Milind Bharambe, the additional Commissioner of Police.

The police bust happened on Saturday at 8.45am at the Saket centre of the police recruitment exam, where nearly 6000 candidates had appeared for the entrance test. Bharambe said that since mobile phones and calculators were not allowed in exam halls, the candidates had hid them in their shoes, sleeves, underwear etc.

“Acting on the tip off, we kept an eye in the exam halls to find out those who were copying”, he said. After the arrests, the police immediately raided Ramesh Lodge near Thane station where Prakash Pawar and Vilas Chavan, who helping the candidates answer using the help of their books.

The arrested candidates told the police that Prakash and Vilas charged them Rs2 lakh each for permanent recruitment in the police force. The duo however claim they charge only Rs10,000 as the fees of the academy.

Police told that a girl has been detained in connection with this scam when her conversations with one of the accused were found on her mobile. All arrested candidates were permanently disqualified for any recruitment examinations.
