Mumbai collegians arrested for bag snatching to fund lavish lifestyle

The Kherwadi police on Friday arrested two college students for indulging in bag snatching in order to fund their lavish lifestyle.

The police identified the accused as Abhilash Shetty and Satish  Gobhal.

According to the police, on Thursday night when complainant Mamta Kher, 23, was on her way home in an auto rickshaw, the accused, who were on a motorbike, reportedly snatched her bag and were trying to flee.

A social activist, identified as S Ansari, who was passing in a car heard her cry for help. He chased the duo, who abandoned their bike and the bags on the road and fled.

The police traced the accused based on their vehicle number and arrested them.

The police are now verifying whether the accused have been involved in the similar cases earlier. “We will be questioining them on this,” said Avdhut Chavan, senior police inspector, of Kherwadi police station. The cops are also investigating if others are involved in the crime.

The officials said that Ansari has been made a prime witness in the case, as without his efforts it would not have been possible to catch the accused.

The police officials said that the accused belonged to good families and their parents were not aware about their activities till they were apprehended.
