Mulund’s support for Anna Hazare’s campaign against corruption is gaining speed.

On one hand when the entire subrub is celebrating Gokulashtami, this mandal from Mulund will not break the handi till Anna ends his fast. Santoshi Mata Mitra Mandal, which has been organising dahi handi since 1982, has organised the same this year too. But, around 700 supporters and citizens collectively decided that they shall not break the handi till Anna ends his fast and a decision on Jan Lokpal Bill is taken.

Nilesh Patil, president of the mandal said, “We all have united for the fight against corruption. Not just people from our mandal, but even Govinda mandals coming to break the handi, have supported the cause. They have agreed not to break the handi.” The group has been celebrating the festival with full enthusiasm. However, this year, they have sacrificed the celebration for the benefit of the people. Till the previous year, the mandal was visited by several govinda mandals who took away exciting prizes. But this year, no prize money has been decided by them as it is people’s handi.

“The handi will be broken only when Anna breaks his fast. It can be a week later or even late. On that day we shall invite govinda mandals from different areas to break the handi,” added Patil.

“This is a unique cause which is for the benefit of the people. Therefore, we are with the mandal’s decision and all other people should come ahead for this cause,” said a spokesperson from a govinda mandal in Mulund.
