The 15-year-old girl and her mother had come to the city on June 24 via Delhi from the state of Virginia and had gone to Thane where they were staying with some relatives.

"While the girl had yesterday tested positive for flu, her mother was quarantined today and her throat swab samples will be sent to verify if she is suffering from the ailment," Dr U H Gavande, Deputy Director General of Health Directorate saidI.

The relatives whom the duo had come to meet in Thane have also been put on medication, Gavande said.

So far there are five confirmed cases -- three in Mumbai and two in Pune -- of swine flu in the state.

Health officials are also awaiting the test results of a 11-year-old who had travelled to Lhasa and Florida and showed suspected symptoms of the flu.

The first confirmed patient of swine flu, a 36-year-old engineer, currently admitted in the civic-run Kasturba Hospital is expected to be discharged in the next two to three days, he said.
