Gone are the days when Indians use to wait for summers or Diwali to take a trip. Today, they don’t need a reason or a season to travel says a survey done by Globus, a global tour operator.

Even travel experts agree that unlike western travellers, Indians just pack up their bags and set off whenever they want. These spur of the moment trips also help them save around 40% of their money.

School holidays are no longer the only time that Indians travel. In fact, families without young children, a very large segment of travellers, are choosing off-season months to dodge high season prices and crowds, reveals  the survey.

This trend is more common among the DINK (double income no kids) couple and couples who have grown-up children. “They have huge disposable income to decide, plan and go whenever they want,”says Rajesh Rateria, owner, Cirrus Travels, Fort.

“Moreover travelling abroad has become so easy these days and people are also aware of travel formalities, so they can plan and make travel arrangements within days,” he says.

Thus, whether it is a long vacation to Europe or short vacation to Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia, Indians no longer fuss over travelling.

“With countries like Thailand which give visa on arrival facility, taking a short vacation over the weekend is what these people do,” he says.

And travelling to these places also helps people save a lot of money. “Typically Europe is favoured only by winter sports enthusiasts. But Europe is less expensive during Christmas, but the entire continent is dressed up in festivities” says Gauri Jayaram, regional director, South Asia and Middle East, Globus.

“Exploring Europe in winter can cost 40% less than the summer months and it is a difference many Indians take advantage of touring in winter,  even if it is a tad too cold in some places,” she adds.

“Not only Europe but even exploring other destinations during off-season is quite a money saver and people can save up to 40%,” says Rateria.
