An 8-year-old boy is the prime eyewitness in the murder of his father, Vilas Khot, a local NCP leader and cable operator who was strangulated and killed at his residence in Andheri on Sunday night by his wife and her lover.

The police are trying to arrange for child welfare officials to examine and take a proper statement from Khot’s son, Om. “Om was sleeping in the same house where Khot was killed by his wife Rupa and her lover Sunil Chavan. We believe he might have been awake at the time of the incident. At the time of a scuffle between Khot and his wife and her lover Chavan, Om woke up and asked his mother the reason for the commotion. She told him that his father has fallen off the bed under the influence of alcohol,” said police inspector, Deepak Bagwe of the MIDC police station.

“We are planning to arrange officials from child welfare committees to speak to Om and find out what exactly transpired and what he had seen on the night of the incident,” said Bagwe.

The police has already arrested Rupa and her lover Chavan who was an employee in Khot’s cable business, on charges of murdering him by suffocating him with a pillow and then strangling him with a towel.

Rupa and Chavan have both been remanded to police custody till April 20.
