Meticulous investigation and risk by the police led to the arrest of the four persons allegedly involved in the murder of Kavita Suchak and her driver Prakash Bagwe at Juhu on August 30. The police even had to change their appearance to nab the absconding accused.

Kavita, 43, and Bagwe, 35, were found murdered in Suchaks' ground floor flat in Jai Jagdish Building at Juhu.

Two domestic helps from Nepal, Ram Singh and Tek Singh, were missing since the crime. "A police team was sent to Nepal border by flight to ensure they do not sneak into Nepal. A meticulous piece of investigation based on circumstantial and electronic evidence led to the arrests," said additional commissioner of police, west region, Vishwas Nangre-Patil.

Police sources told DNA that Kavita's mobile phone was missing from the flat and the police put the phone number on surveillance. "The suspect switched on the cellphone in Nerul and soon we got the tower location of the area. The phone was in possession of Prem Singh and we arrested him," said a police officer.

Prem spilled the beans. "While Prem left for Nerul, Tek, Bheem and Ram left for Nanded in a cab. He told us that the three are staying with a relative, Dev Bahadur" said police sub-inspector Pravin Desai.

Prem was asked to contact his accomplices. "Prem called up Bheem and told him that he was in Pune and would be going to Nanded by bus. Bheem asked Prem to meet him near Hingoli gate on Saturday," Desai said.

The police chalked out a foolproof plan to nab the culprits. "An eight-member team was asked to leave with Prem. Some of the policemen wore lungi and briefs to avoid suspicion," Desai said. "We took a risk of leaving Prem to meet Bheem. We asked Prem to give us a signal if he saw Bheem."

When  Dev Bahadur came towards Prem, he signalled the police saying he was not Bheem. "Bahadur and Prem then sat in an auto, where Bheem was also present. The police intercepted the vehicle and nabbed Bheem," he said.

Bheem said Ram and Tek were hiding in a pipe. "The police arrested them and recovered Rs80000, three bangles, two earrings and a pendant from them," said deputy commissioner, Pratap Dighawkar.

The police on Sunday said that Kavita Suchak's husband, Yogesh, was aware about the criminal record of his domestic servant, but did not inform the police. "Please intimate the police if your servant is aggressive and give his photograph and information to the police as it can help the police in preventing such crimes," said Nangre-Patil.

"We request people not to employ Nepali citizens as domestic help without police verification," said Raj Thakur, president of Nepali Shramik Mazdoor Union of India.
