The security staff at Nair hospital on Thursday nabbed a trader for allegedly threatening to kill a doctor with a licenced revolver on the hospital premises. They later handed him over to the police.

“Imam Hasan Siddique, 40, has been booked under section 506 (2) of the IPC [threatening to kill]. He was remanded in judicial custody for seven days,” said senior police inspector Praveen Gosavi of the Agripada police station.

The incident took place around 3.30pm in the hospital’s MRA department. Siddique brought his son Anwar, 13, for an MRA test. He argued with department in-charge Dr Vipul Chemburkar for his son to be checked first. Chemburkar told him that there were two patients in the queue ahead of him and that he would check them before coming to Anwar.

Siddique started quarrelling. Chemburkar told him that he would call the security staff if he created a ruckus. Siddique said he was not afraid and showed him his revolver in the presence of two female doctors — Bhakti and Smurti — and threatened to kill him.

The doctor contacted the security staff over the intercom.

Divisional security officer Vinod Baadkar, assistant security officer Anil Waghmare and security guard Lahu Bangar nabbed Siddique.
