Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, on Thursday kick started its placement season for the running academic year. Day one saw most of the big and student preferred companies like McKinsey & company, Microsoft India, Bain & Company, Procter & Gamble etc. While this time around day one did not have any slotting process students were open to give interview to all the companies that were present on the campus.

Total number of 450 students gave interview on day one out of little over 1300 applications that IITB placement cell had received. Since there was no traditional slotting on Day one of this placement season, the results were to be declared late in the night at around 3am. Prof Ravi Sinha, Dean of placements told DNA, “The traditional slotting process did not allow a student to appear for the second slot if he has already got a job in the first slot. However this time, on day one students who gave interview to companies in the morning slot were also allowed to take the interviews of companies in the evening slot.”

While students are anticipating more number of applications through placement cell, this year; considering huge crowd of students, authorities have related it to the increase in number of students each year. Sinha said, “Each year, there is increase in the number of students coming to IIT. Considering this increase, we are bound to have more job applications.”

A student who did not wished to be named told DNA, “Many big companies are on campus on the day one itself. Moreover, since on day one, there is no traditional slotting a student could chose companies of his choice in a preference list from morning and evening slot, together. This definitely provided more options.”

While one more students expressed bigger presence of finance and consulting industries on campus than technological, Sinha said, “On day one, in fact, we have taken care of that wide range of companies will be available on campus. So we have had carefully listed out companies where at least one company is there attributing to different streams from where students are applying for jobs.”
