Heavy rain ends dry spell in Mumbai

According to the weather bureau, spells of rain or thundershowers have been forecast in parts of the city and suburbs.

Train services and road traffic were disrupted on Saturday morning as heavy rain lashed the city for hours. It also caused flooding at several areas, including a minor collapse that injured one person.

According to the weather bureau, spells of rain or thundershowers have been forecast in parts of the city and suburbs, with possibility of heavy rain in some areas, for Sunday.

According to the data collected by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) disaster management cell, up to 5.30pm the city area recorded 48.6mm rainfall, while the eastern suburbs received 74.3mm and western suburbs recorded 64.2mm rainfall.

Road traffic was also affected; there were jams at many junctions and traffic was slow. Sixteen incidents of trees falling were reported from different parts of the city and suburbs. A minor landslide occurred at Sakinaka, in which Ravihshankar Sanap (21) got injured.

He was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital. Complaints of water logging were reported from low lying areas of the city.
