Ganeshotsav: Girgaum security to be tightened

In view of the recent triple blasts in south Mumbai, the police have taken extra precautions to ensure Ganesh idol immersions at Girgaum Chowpatty take place without any untoward incident.

In view of the recent triple blasts in south Mumbai, the police have taken extra precautions to ensure Ganesh idol immersions at Girgaum Chowpatty take place without any untoward incident. The entire beach will be monitored by eight high resolution Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.

According to the police, over 3,000 Ganesh idols from south and central Mumbai, including Lalbaugcha Raja, are immersed at Girgaum Chowpatty in the ten-day span of the festival. Deputy commissioner of police, Zone II, Anil Kumbhare said that metal detectors, road blocks, loudspeakers and floodlights have been installed at the venues to ensure the immersions are conducted peacefully.
