The residents of Empire Estate Society, situated on the Mumbai-Pune national Highway-4 in Chinchwad, staged a demonstration at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters on Thursday.

They are annoyed as the civic body has changed the width of the proposed flyover to be constructed near their residential society.

The Empire Estate Federation, a body formed by the residents of the society, in a statement said that the PCMC had promised that the flyover would be 27-metre wide.

"But the fact is that it is 34 metres wide. The increase will cause more air and noise pollution. Moreover, the civic officials had also given the approval for a ramp near our society's entrance, which will cause traffic congestion, leading to accidents," the residents alleged.

According to them, the changes were made without taking the residents into confidence. They threatened the civic officials to stick to the original plan.
